Factoring Polynomials

Overview

This chapter extends the study of polynomials to factoring. The chapter highlights several methods of factoring: checking for common monomial factors, factoring trinomials by reversing the FOIL process, factoring by grouping, and recognizing special patterns.

What you can expect to learn

After completing these activities you should be able to

  1. Factor polynomials by using the Distributive Property.
  2. Factor trinomials of the form ax² + bx + c.
  3. Factor polynomials by recognizing special patterns.
  4. Factor polynomials completely over the set of integers.
