Overview

Punctuation rules are reviewed and practiced. Students work with periods, commas, semicolons, colons, quotations marks, ellipses, italics, apostrophes, hyphens, dashes, and parentheses. 

What you can expect to learn

  • Correctly use end marks in addresses, times, and dates and with names and titles. 
  • Correctly use commas in a series, after introductory elements and certain other sentence elements, and with quotations, dates, and addresses. 
  • Correctly identify commas that are used incorrectly. 
  • Correctly place semicolons and colons. 
  • Correctly place quotation marks in direct quotations and titles. 
  • Correctly use ellipses and italics.
  • Correctly use apostrophes and hyphens. 
  • Correctly use dashes and parentheses.
