This chapter covers both numerical and variable exponents. Properties of exponents including products, powers, and quotients are extended to algebraic bases. The use of exponents in scientific notation is reviewed. Students learn to graph power functions and exponential functions. Exponential functions are then used to model growth and decay in the real world. The chapter concludes with an introduction to geometric sequences.
