Applying Equations and Inequalities

Overview

This chapter extends the students' abilities in solving equations and inequalities to more complicated equations and inequalities. In addition to solving equations with variables on both sides, students will learn what it means when solving such equations results in a true or false statement. Equations with powers and radical equations (and the possible extraneous solutions) are also covered.

What you can expect to learn

After completing these activities you should be able to

1. Solve more complex linear equations.
2. Solve simple exponential and radical equations.
3. Solve more complex linear inequalities.
4. Solve real-world problems by writing and solving equations and inequalities containing parentheses and variables on both sides.
