Rational Expressions

Overview

This chapter extends students' ability to find the GCF and LCM of numerical expressions to algebraic expressions, reviews conversions of various representations of rational numbers, and reviews how to solve proportions. It also summarizes the major subsets of the real numbers.

What you can expect to learn

After completing these activities you should be able to

  1. Determine the GCF and LCM of numbers and algebraic expressions by using prime factorizations.
  2. Compare different forms of rational numbers.
  3. Compare quantities by using ratios and rates.
  4. Evaluate square and cube roots.
  5. Identify subsets and properties of the real numbers.
