Overview

Students review finding prepositional phrases and recognizing their use as modifiers. Appositive and verbal phrases are also studied. Students learn to avoid misplaced prepositional phrases, as well as misplaced and dangling participial phrases. Advanced concepts introduced along with verbal phrases include perfect gerunds and passive infinitives.

  • Recognize a prepositional phrase and identify it as adjectival or adverbial. 
  • Identify an appositive phrase. 
  • Identify verbals and verbal phrases, including participles, gerunds, and infinitives. 
  • Recognize a misplaced prepositional phrase or a misplaced or dangling participial phrase. 
  • Recognize a perfect gerund. 
  • Recognize a passive infinitive.
