Introduction to Trigonometry

Overview

Chapter 12 introduces the students to trigonometry and provides a foundation for higher-level courses.
The basic trigonometric ratios and their inverses are used to solve right triangles as well as real-world problems. These ratios are then used to find areas of triangles and regular polygons. A section on vectors provides a needed introduction for higher-level science and math courses. Reciprocal trigonometric ratios are introduced and applied in the verification of trigonometric identities. In the final section the Law of Cosines and Law of Sines are derived and applied, extending the introduction of trigonometry to oblique triangles.
