Area and Volume

This chapter discusses how to find the area of several types of polygons and circles. Areas of similar figures are also covered. The latter part of the chapter teaches how to find the surface area and volume of prisms and circular cylinders.

What you can expect to learn

After completing these activities you should be able to

  1. Calculate the area of a rectangle, square, parallelogram, triangle, or trapezoid.
  2. Calculate the area of a circle.
  3. Find the ratio of the areas of two similar figures, and use this ratio to calculate the area of one of those figures when given the area of the other.
  4. Calculate the surface area of a polyhedron.
  5. Calculate the volume of a prism.
  6. Calculate the surface area and volume of a circular cylinder.
