Perimeter, Area, and Volume

This chapter begins with a review of applications of perimeter and area formulas and explores how these measures compare in similar polygons. Formulas for the surface areas of prisms, pyramids, circular cylinders, cones, and spheres are developed and applied, as well formulas for volumes of geometric solids.

What you can expect to learn

After completing these activities you should be able to

  1. Apply perimeter, circumference, and area formulas for planar regions.
  2. Apply the ratios of the perimeters and areas of smiilar polygons.
  3. Find the surface area of a solid.
  4. Find the volume of a solid.
  5. Determine an unknown dimension of a solid when given its area or volume and other dimensions.
