Quadratic Functions

In this chapter, students learn four methods of solving quadratic equations: factoring, taking roots, completing the square, and using the quadratic formula. The last part of the chapter deals with topics relating to the graphs of quadratic functions, such as finding the vertex, y-intercept, and zeros.

What you can expect to learn

After completing these activities you should be able to

  1. Solve a quadratic equation by factoring or by taking roots.
  2. Solve a quadratic equation by completing the square.
  3. Solve a quadratic equation by using the quadratic formula.
  4. Answer questions about the graphs of quadratic functions.
  5. Find the y-intercept and zeros of the graph of a quadratic function.
