Topic Overview
A verb's tense tells the reader the time frame of the action or state of being expressed by the verb. Verbs have three simple tenses: present, past, and future. The perfect tenses express completion of a state or an action. The name of each perfect tense matches the form of have used with the past participle. Each of the simple tenses and perfect tenses also has a progressive form. The progressive tense of the verb shows continuous action.
