Linear Functions

Overview

Students begin this chapter by learning how to find points, intercepts, and slopes of linear equations. Students also learn how to find the slope-intercept form of a linear equation and use this information to graph lines. The chapter also discusses how to write the equation of a line when given certain facts about it, as well as how to graph linear inequalities.

What you can expect to learn

After completing these activities you should be able to

  1. Identify ordered pairs and intercepts of linear equations.
  2. Find the slope of a line, given two of its points.
  3. Write a linear equation in slope-intercept form and state its slope and y-intercept.
  4. Write the equation of a line when given its slope and a point on the line or when given two points on the line.
  5. Write the equation of a line when given a point on the line and the equation of a line parallel or perpendicular to that line.
  6. Describe the correlation of a set of data.
  7. Determine whether a given ordered pair is a solution to a given linear inequality.
