Overview

The first part of the chapter discusses how to find the areas of parallelograms, triangles, trapezoids, and circles, as well as how to solve problems involving the lengths and areas of similar regions. The second part of the chapter explores surface areas and volumes of solids.

What you can expect to learn

After completing these activities you should be able to

  1. Find the area of a parallelogram, triangle, or trapezoid. 
  2. Find the area of a circle.
  3. Find the ratio of lengths or areas of two similar polygons, and be able to use that ratio to find a specified length or area.
  4. Find the surface area of a rectangular prism, cylinder, pyramid, cone, or sphere.
  5. Find the volume of a prism or cylinder.
  6. Find the volume of a pyramid, cone, or sphere.
